Public encouraged to attend and participate in East Edisto long-term master planning
SUMMERVILLE, S.C., June 12, 2007 — MeadWestvaco Corp. today announced the schedule for the upcoming first phase of public planning meetings on East Edisto, the company's contiguous acreage along the eastern edge of the Edisto River in Charleston and Dorchester counties. MeadWestvaco has indicated it will pursue a long-term, comprehensive land management strategy for the 72,000 acres of East Edisto, and in partnership with the respected land planning firm, EDAW, will drive a conservation-inspired master plan for that area.
MeadWestvaco will provide extensive opportunities for public involvement throughout the planning process, starting the week of June 18 and wrapping up next spring. The first phase of the public input process will begin on June 20 and continue until the 26th with four nights of meetings specifically organized for the neighbors who live in the communities in and around East Edisto. Since the following week includes the Fourth of July holiday, no meetings will be held that week.
The general public is invited to attend a meeting on the evening of Thursday, July 12 at the North Charleston Convention Center in ballroom C-2 at 6:30 p.m. All meetings will offer the public the opportunity to hear from and ask questions of MeadWestvaco leadership and planning partners.
The purpose is to introduce neighbors and interested members of the public to the principles guiding MeadWestvaco's conservation-inspired master plan, to provide more information about the land itself, and to listen to community input about the future of the land. Regular updates on meetings and status of the planning process will be available at www.EastEdisto.com.
